Community organizing. Staying hopeful in times of despair. Taking collective action towards a future in which all of us are free to belong.
If these topics excite you, then this is the book club for you!
Join us as we move past discussions of self-care and into discussions of reciprocal care—community members caring for each other. This is a high-impact, low time-commitment book club: instead of reading a book a month, we will spend several months enjoying and learning from one book. Let This Radicalize You: Organizing and the Revolution of Reciprocal Care by Kelly Hayes & Mariame Kaba has been lauded as “the text we desperately need right now,” (Robin D.G. Kelley). Kelly Hayes is a queer Menominee writer and organizer and Mariame Kaba is a Black organizer and educator.
For April's meeting, please read chapter 10, the conclusions, and the afterward of Let This Radicalize You by Kelly Hayes & Mariame Kaba. In addition, we ask that you look at pages 64-73 of the workbook. The workbook can be downloaded for free under the "Resources" section of this link. We ask that you complete as many of the exercises in pages 64-73 as you can. Finally, consider inviting a friend to join us on the meaningful adventure that this book club offers!
Please note that for April we are back to meeting in the third floor conference room.
