Join us for an evening of film, reflection, and conversation as part of the Ohio Goes To The Movies – America 250 series. This special program features a screening of the powerful 1998 film Beloved, based on the Pulitzer Prize–winning novel by Ohio native Toni Morrison.
The evening will feature a welcome from Dayton Metro Library staff, including an introduction to the series, a brief biography of Toni Morrison, and an overview of the film. We will be watching selected segments of this critically acclaimed film. After each segment, our moderator and panelists will lead a thoughtful conversation connecting the scene to the film’s major themes, its relationship to Toni Morrison’s novel, and its cultural impact. This will be a guided and interactive exploration of the themes.
This segmented format is designed to:
Make the film’s complex themes more accessible,
Encourage deeper reflection and dialogue, and
Create space for attendees to engage with both the film and one another.
Attendees are welcome to participate in the discussions or simply listen and enjoy the conversation.
The program concludes with closing remarks and the distribution of resources and materials for attendees.
This event is free and open to the public.
DML welcomes everyone to our programs. If you have questions or need any accommodations, please contact us so we can help make the program a good experience for you.
