Most people don’t know what an Ombudsman is- but their office might be the advocate you need! The Dayton and Montgomery County Ombudsman’s Office is an impartial service that helps residents get fair treatment from government agencies and long-term care providers.
An Ombudsman listens to complaints, investigates problems, and helps find solutions when things get stuck in red tape. They can assist with issues like Social Security benefits, road and street maintenance, child support, public school policies, Veterans services, Medicare and Medicaid, and public assistance benefits.
They also advocate for people receiving long-term care- whether in nursing homes, assisted living, adult care homes or receiving in home services. The Long Term Care Ombudsman Program (LTCOP) was founded by the Older Americans Act. They provide information about your rights, help you understand care options, and make sure you’re treated with dignity and respect.
Best of all, Ombudsman services are free and open to everyone in Montgomery County. Their work covers county and city departments, public schools, townships, and even state and federal offices.
