Brushstrokes of History: Painting at the Library

10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Wilmington-Stroop Branch

Description

Join us for a creative, history-infused painting class that brings Dayton’s earliest days to life! Participants will explore the story of the small party of twelve settlers who traveled up the Miami River in 1796, following the rugged forest trail cleared by surveyor and trailblazer Daniel Cooper. Guided by local history and artistic instruction, you’ll recreate scenes of Dayton’s beginnings, from its dense woodlands and pioneer pathways to the iconic early architecture that helped shape the new settlement.

As part of the session, we’ll highlight landmarks such as Newcom Tavern, the city’s oldest standing building and a symbol of early community life. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, an artist, or simply curious about Dayton’s roots, this program offers a unique chance to paint, learn, and connect with the heritage of our region.

All materials are provided. No painting experience required - just bring your imagination!
