Description

Join the Montgomery County Recorder's Office for information on the Property Fraud Alert Notification Program, Veteran ID Card Program, and Transfer on Death (TOD).

The FAN Program was created to combat property deed fraud which occurs when an individual files a fraudulent document with the county Recorder’s Office, falsely claiming ownership of your home or property. This document is usually forged and often involves a complicit notary. Typically, the person committing the fraud does not intend to live in the property; instead, they aim to sell it quickly to an unsuspecting buyer at the property’s value. Property-deed fraud can generally be reversed if detected early. For this reason, the Recorder’s Office offers a notification system for all property owners in Montgomery County and encourages them to enroll. If your county neighbors Montgomery County, those counties also have the deed fraud programs.

The Veteran Identification Card Program is an innovative new program to assist veterans in obtaining benefits. The program serves as a proactive safety net to ensure veterans securely record their DD-214 and obtain a valid form of state-issued identification that can be used to assist in obtaining healthcare benefits, burial benefits, specialized veteran loans, store discounts, and more.

The TOD Program assists homeowners with planning the future ownership of their homes after their death. By ensuring the proper documentation (TOD) is recorded, the beneficiary can bypass the Probate Court process (Please note: the Recorder’s Office staff CANNOT provide legal advice or assist you in completing the forms.)
