"Ping-Ping has a lot on her plate these days. She's had it with people making fun of her name -- and assuming she doesn't speak English just because she's Chinese American. At school, pesky Lee Beaumont won't stop calling her 'French Fry' because she once brought tofu sticks for lunch. Her mom keeps nagging her about reading in the dark -- and now she might need glasses. And there's a chance her family could move from New York to Kenya for her dad's job, which would mean saying goodbye to her best friend and all she knows and loves.
